Abide

In my personal work I tend to explore the beautification and ornamentation of words, usually through practices that could be described as lovingly obsessive (read, occasionally crazy). Investing time in anything gives it worth, and I enjoy the process of magnifying the value of language. Embroidering these towels was time-consuming as all get out, but the undertaking became a sort of meditation on the word and what it means to continue without fading, to dwell in the practice of expectation and anticipation. I also wanted to create a piece that could be divided and taken to different homes as a functional object. Abide exists in the gallery as a series of twelve tea towels, but beyond that point they may become individual and personal items.
Abide was created for ArtNog 2011, a You Are Loved event.
Proceeds from the sale of this piece will go directly to fund Ariel Frey's journey to Youth With a Mission. Read more about Ariel and YWAM here.
